Focus up, clowns
Early Voting starts on Feb. 17
HEY, DID YOU KNOW THAT TOMORROW, MONDAY FEBRUARY 2, IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN THE PRIMARY RACES?
Check your voter registration status here.
My sample ballot has seven pages, most of them judges, so I’ll be seeking out good endorsement sources in the next couple of weeks. So far, here are some endorsement slates that I’ve found:
Houston LGBTQ+ Caucus (annoyingly, these aren’t on their website yet)
Texas Progressive Caucus (not well organized, but here nonetheless)
Houston Progressive Caucus
Harris County Young Democrats (again, not on their website)
Voting days and hours:
Early Voting: Tuesday, February 17 – Friday, February 27
Mon-Sat: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Sun: 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Election Day: Tuesday, March 3, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is February 20. Please be aware of new changes to mail handling that will probably disenfranchise a few people who won’t be aware, and that’s all it’s really meant to do as far as I can tell. Basically, if you drop your mail ballot off at the post office on Election Day, it may not be postmarked that day, which means it wouldn’t be counted.
So, who are you voting for, Sara?
Hell if I know. I mean, I’ll throw Bobby Cole a vote just for employing me for a few months. Vikki Goodwin is a good person. I like Nathan Johnson. I’ll come up with a better answer to this question for a post before early voting starts. I really don’t know who I’m voting for in the Senate race, but no matter who wins I think that race is going to be really interesting in November.
Three. Good. Things.
I’m reading Tori Amos’ book resistance, which came out in 2020, and I had no idea that she basically grew up in Washington D.C. playing for powerful people in D.C. bars in the ‘80s, which helped her develop an intense point of view about power.
Taylor Rehmet won. Christian Menefee won. These are great wins to celebrate.
Last week we went to this special Top Chef “family dinner” where the Houston Top Chef contestants made and served a five-course meal, and this is the lamb course from last year’s winner Tristen. It was so good.
